Fast Cars, Loose Women

Someone once advised me that when you go to an art gallery try to relate the art you see to some other area of study – for instance, the state of social history, politics or even philosophy at the time the artist was working. This, they say, will help provide some context and appreciation of the works.

So yesterday we went to the “Shifting Gear” exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Now I am no great car fan but these designs, seen in the flesh, were phenomenal. They were so sleek and extreme that they just oozed power and sex. It all made you wonder just how far you could take things.

Then I cornered Sally in the lift and kissed her. It only lasted a few seconds and yes, she squirmed and giggled, saying that my beard tickled but that was how it was supposed to be. Once the lift doors opened we were back to normality but with the mischievous possibilities still in my head.

And then I understood, that was what the car designers were seeking to achieve and left me feeling like a million dollars.
