Wildly Inaccurate - 1

This is a warning really, to those of you who may get asked whether we can stay with you when we are on our next holiday.  Please be aware that you would be getting a double act: The Sally and Martin Show.

Just like all the best duos, we complement each other. Over the past few weeks I have realised that often I will start a story and Sally will finish it – yes, it’s normally that way round. We now know each other’s lines so well that we could even swap roles. At times, when Sally has just finished another of my stories, I have even thought about going out on my own but I know it wouldn’t work.

It means that I would have to learn far more than Sally as my stories are carefully chosen and succinct – it’s the ones that I leave out that make what’s said so special. By comparison, Sally has shown herself to be far less discriminating. She just babbles away and doesn’t even finish mine correctly.

But that’s OK since we feel that the key is quantity not quality. For talking endlessly is our way of paying our hosts back for having us. Often we have not seen them for a long time and so we have to update them on many years of family history in just a day or two.

I say history, but much of it is embellished. Luckily our kids are not here to act irate and point out the inaccuracies, and Sally and I are certainly not going to pull each other up. After all, we are a double act and the key is to keep going until the curtain falls and we move on to the next show.
