Le Terroir - Chalon sur Saone

Land and the ownership of land are very important to the French. It goes to the heart of their existence. You can see it in the Tourist Information Offices, where it's a dog-eat-dog world. Every office promotes only their own region. All very logical, after all it's the region that provides the funding. But if you are crossing from one to the next it would be helpful to get information to help you on your way. Like 'is there a cycle route?' and 'how can I best avoid that mountain?' Unfortunately the nearest office can't help as, you see, it isn't their mountain.
