Get yourself a bike and get down here to Macon or Beaune. It's great. The bike route is smooth and flat, there is a tunnel at Clare Bois that's 2km long with fairy lights like Santa's Grotto, the campsites are affordable and the thunderstorms only occur at night. The only real porblem are the slugs. They choose to make suicidal dashes across the cycle path so you have to take care to avoid them. I don't know why they do it. There is plenty of vegetation on both sides of the path. What they need is a communication system to ask:
'What's it like on your side?'
'Fine, how about yours?'
'About the same'
'Then I may as well stay here'
'Yeah, me too'.
